Mystic Dreamer Tarot

Four of Cups

A pale woman sits under a tree, knees drawn up, and arms clasped around them. She has cut herself off and has turned completely inward. Nearby sit three cups that she seems to want no part of. In the distance is a cup on a stone, overflowing with water - something worth having, if she'd only look. Farther back are a stag and a castle. Just above her head in a notch in the tree perches a small owl, the promise that wisdom is available.

This card represents self-absorption, apathy, and boredom. You have been disappointed by somebody or something and now you are emotionally stuck. You don't like what's in front of you and you cant be bothered to look further than your own brooding mind. It is a shame because, if you listen to the voice of wisdom, you will look up and see that what you need is not far away.

If reversed, this card can mean a deeper depression or engaging in unhealthy activities to relieve boredom.

Use your intuition

  • Around the base of the tree, mushrooms are growing. Do they add anything to the meaning of this card?
  • A stag and a castle are visible in the distance. What do they symbolize?
  • In this image, what do you thing happens next?
